MijnWijnPlein specializes in importing special wines from local winemakers.

The wine culture in France started here around 2000 years ago in the neighborhood of Narbonne. The culmination of this area was under the Romans when wine from this area was already known in Rome and exported to Germany. With the fall of the Roman Empire, the area also lost its reputation. In the period after, wine was mainly produced for regional consumption. In the 13th century vin doux natural was first made in Perpignan. In the 17th century, when the area became more accessible, viticulture again got an impulse. However, a large part of the production was distilled into eau de vie. In the 19th century there was also an increasing demand for wine with industrialization. The area then became the largest wine region in the world, but the quality was generally not good. It was more about quantity than quality and in the course of time there was even overproduction. It was not until the seventies and eighties of the 20th century that people began to focus increasingly on making better quality wines. In 1987, a number of vintners joined together and the fin created the pays d'Oc with success. In addition, there were a number of individual winemakers at the same time who were going to focus on producing top wines.

The region is characterized by more or less traditional terroir wines, which are mostly red. Of these wines, Fitou in 1948 was the first with an appellation d'origine contrôlée - AOC - in the eighties followed Faugères, Saint-Chinian, Minervois, Corbières and Coteaux du Languedoc, which since 2007 is called Languedoc. With 50,000 hectares and 121 municipalities, Languedoc is the largest appellation. A number of municipalities may add their name to the appellation. Corbières is 15,000 hectares and the district of Fitou is in the middle of it. North of it lies the Minervois (5000 ha) and eastern of it the smaller areas Saint-Chinian and Faugères.
