MijnWijnPlein imports delicious fine wines from the South African winemaker Post house and provides their pairing with delicious recipes.
Post House is a winery in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The translation of Post House is not as you may think, the "post office" but the "post stop". This was a place where the post coaches stopped and where the horses, crew and travelers could eat, drink and rest. Also, the place where travelers could get in or our and where cargo and horses could be changed. The names of the wines are based on this. This is how the Penny Black was named after the first postage stamp in the world.
Nick Gebens has over 38 hectares of land here, planted with grapes such as cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, syrah and chenin blanc. The soil consists of a composition of gravel which is a layer of one meter on top of the clay subsoil. This combination ensures sufficient heat at the bottom of the vineyard and a large mineral balance, while the clay ensures sufficient moisture in the dry summer.
