Last year we had an appointment with Sébastien du Petit Thouars. They were in Amsterdam and invited us to taste their wines. For cabernet franc from the Loire, we were pleasantly surprised and so we made an appointment.
We were kindly received by D'Arcy du Petit Thouars, the wife of Sébastien. We received an extensive tour of the vineyards at the castle. The parents of Sébastien have restored the 16ha vineyards and the wine cellar in the natural limestone caves. They did this after their mother, after the war, stopped making wine. The estate has been in Sébastien's family since 1633.
We meet the winemaker, Michel Pinard, in the beautiful old wine cellars in the limestone caves. D'Arcy and Sébastien are very happy with this winemaker. For this Michel made wine at the famous wine house Domaine Joguet. Of course we tasted the wines again and besides the red, cabernet francs, we also tasted the white, pink and sparkling wines. The red wines remain our favorite but that is not strange in this wine region Chinon
Incidentally, it has not been a year since she moved from Touraine wine region to Chinon. From the past they belong in Chinon but due to financial reasons, Touraine was chosen in the past.
We ended with a delicious lunch in the castle consisting of asparagus, followed by cheese, chocolate cake and of course coffee.
